Sparkle Star

Hello.
Today I have a video and card up on the Hero Arts blog. In it, I show how to create your own non-flake super sparkly glitter paper. It's a fun technique, and a great one for when you want to send a sparkly card to a friend who may not want to be showered in glitter when they open the envelope…
So - here is the card. I used Hero Arts Stylish star dies plus a ton of Doodlebug glitter mixed with translucent embossing paste and some tiny stars. Yum.

The sentiment is from THIS Hero set, stamped in Silver Shadow ink. (I adore this ink…it ALWAYS gives a super crisp impression.)

Head over to Hero Arts to check out my video. I hope you like the technique… :)
Bye for now.

SSS November Card Kit Challenge Week - Day 5

It's the last day of my November Card Kit challenge week… thanks again for sharing your ideas of how you would like me to use my kit.
Day 5's challenge:

Border Stamps

Someone asked me to make a card with the striped border stamp in the Be Joyful stamp set from the kit. OK, I admit it… I always ignore these border stamps in stamp sets. I am not sure I have ever used one… and that is a pretty poor effort. So this challenge really appealed to me. And yes, I have hardly been inventive in the way I have used it, but it has been used… and that's enough for me. :)
For this card, I embossed the tree and border on white cardstock with Simon's new Silver Embossing Powder. This is LOVELY quality by the way. Really smooth and fine. I hand cut the tree, leaving a thin white border, then added an enamel heart and some silver thread loops.
Silver Tree by Lucy Abrams This is a tall and thin card - just 3 1/2" wide. It's fun to create different size cards once in a while. :)

I hope you have enjoyed my challenge week. Thanks again to all those who made suggestions. Sorry if I did not pick your idea, but I've done a bit of research for you and found the following, all created with the November card kit:
A colourful shaker card that features lots of layers
A card that uses 3 different patterned papers
A very cool card that features the solid image tree in different colours
Hope these help you.
Have a lovely weekend.
Bye for now.

SSS November Card Kit Challenge Week - Day 4

It's time for Day 4 of my November Card Kit challenge.
So - Day 4's challenge:

Non Traditional Christmas Colours

OK - so I make a lot of Christmas cards with non traditional colours… in fact, it's rare that I stick to the traditional green or red. :) But as it was offered as a challenge, I embraced it. :)
I chose the teal polka dot paper from the Lawn Fawn Snow Day pad that comes with the kit. Teal is certainly not traditional, right? OK, so pairing it with white is less adventurous than it might have been… but that paper is the PERFECT snowy sky, and needed a snowy ground to go with it. :)
I added sweet die cut houses from the new Village dies selection, cutting them from white card then coating them with Wink of Stella.

I used a couple of the Stitched Lines and Hills dies to create my snowy hill. Oh, and I love the cute enamel hearts in the kit.
Village Scene 2 by Lucy Abrams Originally, I coated the hill with Wink of Stella too - but the brush marks were really visible. Anyone know if there is a technique to avoiding this??
Right - one more day to go. See you tomorrow.

SSS November Card Kit Challenge Week - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of my Simon Says Stamp November Card Kit Challenge week.
Today's challenge:

Patterned Papers as a Focal Point

It's super easy to limit the use of patterned papers to backgrounds. I am certainly very guilty of this… so when someone challenged me to use patterned paper as the focal point of a card, I was inspired to have a go.
The Lawn Fawn Snow Day papers that come with the kit are gorgeous. There are plenty of papers that would be perfect as a focal point. I chose the green diamond pattern, then added glitter detail with dots of Multi Matte Medium and some Star Dust glitter.  Once dry, I die cut three trees from the paper using THESE dies. Super CAS and easy.

I added some glittery die cut stars to the top of my trees for even more sparkle.

SSS November Card Kit Challenge Week - Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of my Simon Says Stamp November Card Kit challenge week.
Day 2:

Dots

The cute Be Joyful stamp set that comes with the kit has a polka dot style stamp in it. I was challenged by one reader to use this stamp so, I chose to create a snowy sky with it. I used the Cotton Candy card in the kit, and Simon's new White Ink Pad.
My snowman is from the Snowman Parts die collection, and I added a load of Rock Candy glitter, and a ribbon scarf.
